Description:
Luminescent ceramic is a kind of transparent nanoceramics, which added luminophor – a substance capable of converting the energy in light radiation. Because ceramic itself is a hard and durable material, on the basis of fluorescent ceramics can make a light source of high strength.
Depending on the composition of the phosphor, it is possible to obtain different luminescence ceramics: white, blue, yellow and so on, until the infrared portion of the spectrum. Unlike LEDsthat emit only in a narrow range of the spectrum, you can choose the composition of the phosphor emitting in a wide range. This is the advantage of luminescent ceramic in front of the LEDs. Second, in the mass production of light sources from fluorescent nanoceramics cheaper than modern LEDs, as they have a complex electronic structure.
Another promising direction of using a fluorescent ceramic – replacement of single crystals in solid state lasers. For each crystal in solid-state lasers characteristic of a certain wave laser radiation (wavelength, number of modes etc.). Crystal of the fluorescent ceramics can be created with pre-defined optical properties. Luminescent ceramic has in its composition of any defects, and therefore can be created crystal large size that will provide more power in laser.
Products of fluorescent nanoceramics get install spark-plasma sintering. Ceramic powder with the additives of the phosphor is placed in a conductive mold capable of withstanding high temperature and pressure. Further, the material is heated by a pulsed high-frequency current and simultaneously pressed. The process takes a matter of minutes.
