Metal-ceramic membrane is a bilayer membrane, are new material.

The cermet membranes are not brittle and have a high mechanical strength although have a thickness of about 250 µm with a ceramic layer thickness of about 15 microns. The substrate membranes, usually made of stainless steel, a ceramic layer of TiO2, TiO2/Al2O3, ZrO2 or SiO2, or a composite of two or more of these ceramics.
