Self-healing glass is synthesized from translucent polymer TUEG3 (poly-thiourea is ethylene glycol). This polymer has high mechanical strength, and the ability to “samoklejushchiesja”. In order to restore the damaged material, it is sufficient to connect the exploding fragments and tightly secured them to each other for a short time (about 30 seconds). Polymer chains in this material are connected to each other not covalent, and hydrogen bonds. The hydrogen bonds provide the ease of self-healing.
It is expected that in the future such self-healing materials will find wide application in various fields, for example, in the home.
