The receipt of the oxide of phosphorus (V):

Phosphorus oxide (V) is prepared by burning phosphorus in excess of oxygen or air.

P4 + 5O2 → P4O10 (t = 34 to 60 °C).

The finished product consists of a mixture of different forms P4O10.

Chemical properties of phosphorus oxide (V). The chemical reaction of phosphorus oxide (V):

Phosphorus oxide (V) refers to acidic oxides.

Chemical properties of phosphorus oxide (V) are similar to the properties of acidic oxides other nonmetals. So it is characterized by the following chemical reactions:

1. the reaction of phosphorus oxide (V) and white phosphorus:

3P4O10 + 2P4 → 5P4O6 (t = 50 °C).

In the reaction, the formed phosphorus oxide (III).

2. the reaction of phosphorus oxide (V) and sodium:

3P4O10 + 16Na → 10NaPO3 + 2Na3P (t = 300-400 °C).

In the reaction, the formed salt is a metaphosphate of sodium and the phosphide of sodium.

3. the reaction of phosphorus oxide (V) and lithium:

3P4O10 + 16Li → 10LiPO3 + 2Li3P (t = 300-400 °C).

In the reaction, the formed salt is a metaphosphate, lithium phosphide, and lithium.

4. the reaction of phosphorus oxide (V) and fluorine:

P4O10 + 6F2 → 4POF3 + 3O2 (t = 100 °C).

In the reaction, the formed oxide TRIFLUORIDE phosphorus(V) and oxygen.

5. the reaction of phosphorus oxide (V) with water:

P4O10 + 6H2O → 4H3PO4 or P2O5 + 3H2O → 2H3PO4,

P4O10 + 2H2O → 4HPO3 or P2O5 + H2O → 2HPO3.

The reaction to form acids: in the case of phosphoric acid, and the second metaphosphoric acid.

6. the reaction of phosphorus oxide (V) calcium oxide:

CaO + P2O5 → Ca(PO3)2,

2CaO + P2O5 → Ca2P2O7,

3CaO + P2O5 → Ca3(PO4)2 (t°).

The reaction produced a salt, in the first case, the metaphosphate of calciumin the second – diphosphate calcium, a calcium phosphate.

7. the reaction of phosphorus oxide (V) with a sodium oxide:
