Pentaborate tungsten

Pentaborate tungsten.

Technology is in the process of development!

Pentaborate tungsten (WB5) needs to become a cheap substitute of diamond. It can be applied in drilling technology, mechanical engineering and other fields.

Pentaborate tungsten:

Scientists conducted a computer simulation of the search for superhard materials. They predicted a previously unknown substance – pentameric tungsten (WB5), which is second in hardness only to diamond and cubic boron nitride.

Pentaborate tungsten (WB5) needs to become a cheap replacement for the diamond. It can be applied in drilling technology, mechanical engineering and other fields.

Scientists pentaborate tungsten (WB5) is super hard, have a high hardness Vickers ~ 45 HPa (from diamond – 60-120 GPA, the cubic boron nitride is 80-90 GPA) and fracture toughness of ~ 4 MPa·M0,5. It will be thermodynamically stable at atmospheric pressure over a wide range of temperatures and, according to forecasts, will maintain excellent mechanical properties even at 2000 K.

Pentaborate tungsten (WB5) can be easily obtained under normal conditions.
