Obtaining of barium oxide:

The oxide of barium is obtained through the following chemical reactions:

1. burning of barium in oxygen:

2Ba + O2 → 2ВаО.

2. by thermal decomposition of the hydroxide of barium:

Ba(OH)2 → BaO + H2O (t = 780-800 oC).

3. by thermal decomposition of barium carbonate:

BaCO3 → BaO + CO2 (t = 1000-1450 oC).

4. by thermal decomposition of barium nitrate:

2Ba(NO3)2 → 2BaO + 4NO2 + O2 (t = 620-670 oC).

Chemical properties of barium oxide. Chemical reactions of barium oxide:

The barium oxide refers to the main oxides.

Chemical properties of barium oxide are similar to the properties of the basic oxides of other metals. So it is characterized by the following chemical reactions:

1. the reaction of barium oxide with beryllium:

BaO + Be → Ba + BeO (t = 270 oC).

The reaction produces barium and beryllium oxide. Thus, the recovered barium oxide barium beryllium at a temperature of 270 oC.

2. the reaction of barium oxide with aluminum:

3BaO + 2Al → 3Ba + Al2O3 (t = 1200 oC),

2Al + 4BaO → Ba(AlO2)2 + 3Ba (t = 1100-1200 oC),

2Al + 4BaO → BaAl2O4 + 3Ba (t = 1100-1200 oC).

The reaction in the first case is formed with barium and aluminum oxide. Thus, the barium is recovered from the barium oxide by aluminum at the temperature of 1200 oC.

In the second and third cases there is a barium salt – barium aluminate.

3. the reaction of barium oxide with silicon:

3BaO + Si → 2Ba + BaSiO3 (t = 1200 oC).

In the reaction, the formed salt is a silicate of barium and barium.

4. the reaction of barium oxide with oxygen:

BaO + O2 → 2BaO2 (t = 500 oC).

The reaction produces peroxide of barium.

5. the reaction of barium oxide with water:

BaO + H2O → Ba(OH)2.

The reaction forms a hydroxide of barium.

6. the reaction of barium oxide with zinc oxide:

BaO + ZnO → BaZnO2 (t = 1100 oC).

The reaction produced a salt – zincat barium.

7. the reaction of barium oxide with oxide of titanium:

BaO + TiO2 → BaTiO3.

The reaction produced a salt – metatitanate barium.

8. the reaction of barium oxide with the oxide of cadmium:

BaO + CdO → BaCdO2 (t = 1100 oC).

In the reaction, the formed oxide barium-cadmium.

9. the reaction of barium oxide with copper oxide:

BaO + Cu2O → BaCu2O2 (t = 500-600 oC).

In the reaction, the formed oxide of barium-copper.

10. the reaction of barium oxide with a oxide of germanium:

BaO + GeO2 → BaGeO3 (t = 1200 oC).

The reaction produced a salt – metaharmonic barium.

11. the reaction of barium oxide with the oxide of hafnium:

BaO + HfO2 → BaHfO3 (t = 1800-2200 oC).

In the reaction, the formed hafnium oxide-barium.

12. the reaction of barium oxide with the oxide of manganese:

BaO + MnO → BaMnO2 (t = 1800 oC),

8BaO + MnO2 → Ba8MnO10 (t = 800 oC).

The reaction produced in the first case, the barium oxide-manganese in the second oxide manganese-Octubre.

13. the reaction of barium oxide with the oxide of Nickel:

BaO + NiO → BaNiO2 (t = 1200 oC).

In the reaction, the formed oxide of Nickel-barium.

14. the reaction of barium oxide with the oxide of zirconium:

BaO + ZrO2 → BaZrO3 (t = 1800-2200 oC).

The reaction forms zirconium oxide-barium (barium zirconate).

15. the reaction of barium oxide with the oxide of tin:

BaO + SnO → BaSnO2 (t = 1000 oC).

The reaction forms a tin oxide-barium.

16. the reaction of barium oxide with the oxide of vanadium:

2ВаО + VО2 → Ba2VО4 (t = 1500-1700 oC).
