Hybrid reactor on thorium
A hybrid thorium reactor.
Technology is in the process of development!
Hybrid reactor is a reactor that combines a combination of nuclear and thermonuclear technologies. The energy in the result of such a reactor is the result of decay of atomic nuclei, and the synthesis of new chemical elements.
Description:
Hybrid reactor is a reactor that combines a combination of nuclear and thermonuclear technologies. In the process, it creates a high temperature plasma.
While it is easier to manufacture and operate than a fusion reactor. To maintain it thermonuclear reactions is not required ultrahigh pressure and temperature.
As fuel it uses no uranium and thorium, which is economically advantageous. It is cheaper to produce, it stocks more, as accumulated and contained in the Earth’s crust. Waste from the fusion reactor in contrast to conventional nuclear do not require the complex process of burial.
The energy in the result of hybrid nuclear reactor is the result of disintegration of atomic nuclei (as in a conventional nuclear power plant), and the synthesis of new chemical elements.
Russia developed a hybrid reactor – installation of T-15МД, which will have an elongated configuration of the plasma column with aspect ratio of 2.2, a plasma current of 2 MA at a toroidal magnetic field of 2 T with a quasi-stationary system of additional heating total capacity to 20 MW. The plant is designed for a pulse duration up to 30 s. Setting T-15МД designed to create a high temperature plasma with diverting configuration.
