Gantry crane is a full-circle boom crane, the rotary part which is installed on the portal, moving on rails laid on the ground or overpass.

Gantry cranes are the mechanisms of lifting, luffing, rotation, and movement.

Gantry cranes have a lifting capacity up to 200 tons, a reach of up to 60 meters.

 


Types of gantry cranes:

Gantry cranes for their functional purpose are divided into: handling (grab and hook), installation, construction, shipbuilding.

Handling gantry cranes are used to perform wide range of operations:

transshipment of unit loads with a cargo hook,

work with heavy loads

processing of bulk goods with a grapple

work with a magnet,

handling scrap metal using a rectangular diaphragm,

handling of containers with spreader,

for unloading bulk cargo from ships with a steady traffic.

Handling gantry cranes are usually supplied with interchangeable equipment – grabs to work with bulk cargoes and hooks to work with piece cargoes. At the same time on all departures of the boom the load capacity of the handling cranes remains constant.

Mounting gantry cranes designed to work with a responsible piece cargoes. Usually have a low working speed and lifting capacity, depending on the departure – from 12.5 to 160 tons.

Construction and shipbuilding gantry cranes are used for mechanization of construction works. Usually equipped with hooks and a high speed moving loads weighing 10-20 tons horizontally and vertically at a distance of 50 – 70 meters.

And another type of gantry crane is a kangaroo crane, which implies that on the portal the presence of a hopper device. Rotation is excluded from the working cycle of the crane, thereby improving the performance. The movement of the grab from the hold to the hopper and back provide only the lifting mechanism and changes of departure. From the grapple the cargo is poured into the hopper and delivered to the warehouse conveyors.

A chassis device gantry cranes are:
