Alloys
Description:
Babbitt is an antifriction alloy based on tin (Sn), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn) or aluminum (Al) with the addition of antimony (Sb), copper (Cu), cadmium (CD), arsenic (As) etc.
Used for pouring or spraying the bearings.
Properties:
low coefficient of friction,
– the ability to reduce the coefficient of friction of the materials
– pretty wear resistant
– has a high viscosity,
– the melting point of 300-440 °C,
– has a significant drawback – low resistance to fatigue.
