A sheet of gold with a thickness of two atoms:

Scientists have created a new form of gold – leaf of gold with a thickness of two atoms. Thickness the new two-dimensional material is 0.47 nm.

The uniqueness of ultra-thin sheet of gold is that it can be used as catalyst or catalyst substrate in chemical and enzymatic reactions and it is 10 times more effective than the nanoparticles of goldthat are commonly used in industry. This means that the chemical industry can obtain the same effect from using less amount of gold.

In water, the obtained material is green, and therefore it is also called “Golden algae”.
